Have an idea, but need money or materials to support it?

As you search:

  1. Keep your why in mind: know your purpose

  2. Know what you need funds for (what will you buy with the money?).

  3. Go after grants that share your purpose, & allow your purchases. Don’t try to fit a square peg in a round hole- many grants have strict requirements and your project may not always be a good fit.

Once you find a grant that looks promising or if you need help finding one reach out to Monique, the district Grant Writer. She’s happy to help!

writing

Monique will coordinate the pieces of the grant, but she may ask to meet with you & talk through the application. Monique will need your help gathering school/student specific data. Because she often has multiple grant applications going at once, she typically prioritizes them by due date.

Because a grant is a contractual agreement between the school district (on behalf of a teacher, school or department) and the granting agency, the Board of Education has to formally approve it. The BOE approves grants via staff notes at monthly board meetings. Monique will submit this staff note on your behalf prior to submission, and — with luck! — also upon receipt of the grant.

waiting / accepting

It typically takes at least five or six months to hear back about a grant. Sometimes you’ll hear sooner, but often it takes even longer.

If you are awarded a grant, Monique will submit a staff note to the Board for formal approval. Then we will share all the grant info with the district finance office, who will set up your grant account in MUNIS.

Once awarded, it will be important to keep up with any financial and reporting requirements. Monique will work with you to set this up.
